Boarding House

Tucked between a small patch of trees and an old cemetery on the backroads of rural Virginia, this abandoned boarding house holds a fascinating history that speaks to a bygone era. It was once a bustling hub for travelers and locals alike, offering a place to rest, eat, and socialize. However, as times changed and transportation evolved, the boarding house lost its relevance and eventually fell into disrepair. It appears there was an effort to renovate the home, that was never finished. Several old newspapers left behind indicate the house may have been last occupied in the mid-1990s. Today, it stands as a haunting reminder of the past and serves as a window into the lives of those who once called it home.

  1. This is a fantastic quick read, and I’m amazed by how you nailed the essence of its outdated form; it’s as if everything was frozen in time to what it once was. I’m curious if that child is still living now, as she would be a year older than my mother if so. Thank you for sharing.
